So familiar - waking up to the pounding of the hooves of the racehorses on their morning gallops. Popped out of Banjo to enjoy my breakfast earl grey in the sunshine and watch them thunder past. So lovely watching the horses canter twice around at a leisurely pace then do a final speedy gallop. We were surprised to see how many other campers had rolled in after we parked up yesterday.
Nickie had finished her first week of study in one day so had the morning off - she & Louis went swimming whilst I stocked up a week’s worth of food at Pak’n’Save.
She & Russ hit the op shops after lunch while Abby worked & Louis & I chilled then Nickie & I went out to Caroline Bay to see the sights of Timaru! After checking out the old lighthouse and sending a photo to Joy (a tradition of Nickie's) we wandered down to the beach.
Had a lovely walk from the old lighthouse to the far end of the bay and back along the boardwalk. Fascinated by the old jetty supports - two gnarly old weathered posts with rusting metalwork - looking like a surprised face! Nickie was in love with the sand art created by the outgoing tide, and I was slightly obsessed with the fascinating erosion on a small chunk of wood. And we had fun watching the gulls splashing and bathing in the stream coming down from the wetlands.
Shortly after, we were back down to the Bay while Abby & Jez did boot camp and Russ rustled up burgers 🍔 for dinner on the Weber (eagerly watched by hordes of seagulls!)
Lovely but chilly burger picnic as the moon rose then time for an early night.
Moonlight over PharLap was stunning on the final toilet trip of the evening…
