Friday 24 April

Another cold night but not as frosty as the day before - I had my morning chat with the menagerie and picked some frosty strawberries for breakfast. This morning 2-3 blck swans had joined the ducks, geese and shags hanging out on the lake - so elegant.

We took our time packing up then had long farewells with the birdies & beasties before popping in to see Yvonne & Will’s amazing home-built motorhome parked next to us, which even has its own wood burner 🔥

From here we popped into Alexandra for Louis to swim and me to do some chores (and op-shopping), then a bite of lunch at The Old Courthouse before heading up to McArthur Road to park up with our lovely friends Jonny & Debs for a few nights. I had the pleasure of meeting Rufus the Spoodle who had basically inherited 95% spaniel attributes, despite a DNA test stating he was 65% poodle and only 35% spaniel!! And popping down to the Courthouse for lunch we got hijacked by a very friendly tuxedo kitty patrolling the back streets where we had parked Banjo.

Lunch was very good - apparently The Old Courthouse is owned by the same people as The Packing Shed and it has a very good reputation locally.

Heading up McArthur Road it was odd seeing the almost naked pinot vines - the harvest is almost complete and a gaggle of hoppers sit empty along the roadside near the end of the vineyard.

Enjoyed the company of Jonny & Debs and the warmth of their fire whilst baking scones and catching up. Jonny cooked an Arabian chicken dish for dinner and I made pancakes for the third night in a row! Early bed as it’s the ANZAC dawn ceremony in the morning…
