DOC Camp to Fox Top Ten - and dinner at Betsey Jane
Saturday 26 September
A gloomy old morning at Lake Paringa so we just hunkered down inside Banjo as the rain beat down outside. Our overnight companions all left early so it was just us. The clouds never cleared so we'll have to return to take the kayak out on a clearer day!
Packed up in a leisurely fashion and after an early lunch, hit the road up to Fox Glacier. We’d hoped to stop at Bruce Bay on this trip as it always looks so lovely when the Tasman Travels guys go there, but once again it was grey, cloudy & wet so our beach walk will have to wait for another West Coast trip.
Arrived at the Fox Glacier Top Ten three minutes ahead of check-in time and were first in the queue. Lovely helpful Isabelle who’d assisted with our booking kindly suggested an even better site than the one we’d requested and we pulled through a double slot to settle in comfortably at # 145.
No free spa booking for Top Ten members these days, but we paid up $25 for a 3pm reservation and rushed around sorting out laundry on either side of the lovely hot soak. Followed up the spa with luxuriously long hot showers, then put on our glad rags to walk up the road to Betsey Jane for dinner. No queues at this time of year - we walked straight in & had a fantastic meal as usual!
That place rocks! Baked brie for a starter of course - oh, and as we were on the West Coast we had to try their whitebait fritter which was loaded with the tiny critters. It was goooood! Louis went for the fish burger for mains - which was huge - and I had a starter size serving of crispy pork belly (enormous too!)... no dessert as we were stuffed!
A lovely mild evening for our walk home and then I had to do several laps of the campsite to feed my Fitbit before bedtime! 🚶♀️➡️🚶♀️🚶♀️➡️🚶♀️😴
