Winter Arrives Early in Oamaru!

Tuesday 8 April

What a difference a day makes - after a T-shirts and sunscreen kinda day we woke to pouring rain, howling winds and Baltic temperatures!

Louis was on studio duty all morning, working on a new track for a client, so I popped into town to do the linen laundry and visit some of the many op shops. Walking down the main street in Oamaru I wondered just how cold it really was as it felt bitter… the weather app said it was “10*C - feels like -1*C”… yikes! And they weren’t wrong 🥶. The cold snap had hit central South Island hard with snow out on the hills, and even through the Lindis Pass which we had travelled through just 2-3 weeks previously whilst wearing T-shirts!

After lunch at Banjo and a bit of housework we headed back into town for Louis to get his flu jab. Swung by the harbour viewpoint on the way home and almost got blown off the hillside - yikes again!

My Fitbit was hungry for steps so I wrapped up in a million layers and headed out for a beach walk below the “road” I’d walked & we’d cycled along. The clouds were beginning to clear and the sun was casting beautifully delicate pastel colours across the sky so I took my freezing feet for a dibble and walked a km or so along the beach as the waves pounded - it was bitterly cold but gorgeous - sometimes the suffering is worth it!

Dinner in Banjo with the heat pump blasting - thank heavens for powered sites 😊🔌
