Why Does it Always Rain on Me?

Tuesday 18 March

Following the hottest day then overnight drizzle and slightly lower temperatures - Tuesday just got colder, wetter and windier!

We packed up early, before Louis went for a swim at the funky Caroline Bay Trust’s Aoraki Centre and I walked along the Hector’s Coastal Track to the Dashing Rocks at Dashing Point.

First 3-400m were fine as I popped down to Waimataitai Beach which I was sharing with the oystercatchers and one other brave couple. But as I headed out to the point it started blowing a hooley and pelting with rain. The sea at Dashing Point was absolutely dashing and crashing against the oddly crenellated rocks down there - I'm keen to return on a slightly sunnier day to climb down to the rocks to investigate.

By the time I met Louis back at the pool, I think I was wetter than all the swimmers there!!!

Back at Banjo we had creamy scrambled eggs for lunch then battled the weather to hitch up and leave (not so easy as our close neighbours were still, well, close).

It was quite wild heading down the coast but gradually we drove out of the storm, and heading up the Waitaki valley it was just cloudy and grey.

We settled into Glenmac Farm again and sadly I had a bit of fridge cleaning to do as the cream had leaked all over the place on our bumpy journey to the farm - three shelves, two door shelves and a bacon drawer all spattered with drips and drops of cream!

We had a chill evening with just cheese, crackers and salmon pate for dinner before a very chilly night - down to 6*C. Glad to be on power so we could run the heat pump for a bit!
