Waiting in Wanaka

Saturday 15 February

Playing a waiting game… woke to a land of bunnies and ducks, Louis had a quick dip then we packed up before heading into town. Had a quick chat with the other Snowy River people on the site on the way out - our first communication with the Snowy community in the wild!

In town we discovered that the Wānaka Challenge was taking place - a half triathlon attracting up to 2k competitors - so we parked up miles from the lake and wandered down to wait for the Fernandi arrival at lunchtime.

Louis swam the tri course and I had a wee dip and chilled in the shade.

Nickie & Russ arrived on an early bus from Queenstown Airport so we took them to Federal Diner for lunch, on TripAdvisors recommendation (solid!)

Delicious lunch then we checked into the Holiday Park, they have a cabin and we had an easy spot over by the lake fence. We borrowed their cabin bathroom to dye my grey roots while they went for a wander!

BBQ dinner at Banjo then Nickie & I went to check out the venue for Jez’s birthday dinner… still waiting for the birthday boy & his entourage to arrive on Sunday!
