Wednesday 23 April
Lovely waking up in the peace of the Treehouse Retreat - 3 other vans parked up but it was quiet as.
We did a few Banjo chores then headed into Kaiapoi so I could get some laundry done before heading off grid, while Louis dumped some stuff at Ella & Josh’s to help us lighten the load even further. Quick lunch at Out the Gate - a neat little pop up in Kaiapoi- where we had jacket potatoes… first time in NZ!
Finally hit the road at around 3pm, heading back to Lake Coleridge where we’d started exploring ten days or so ago. Once we passed Windwhistle and headed up the Rakaia River valley the landscape was absolutely stunning as the late afternoon light broke through the clouds.
We passed fields of sheep and cattle, and signs for various ski fields, and finally pulled into Lake Coleridge village and an empty field which will be our base for the next two nights. What a wonderful spot!
I took a wee wander before dinner and found heaps of places to explore over the next couple of days. Louis barbecued us pork steaks in about 3*C temperatures outside while I got the indoor cooking jobs… phew!
Currently watching UK Traitors S2 while the hot water bottle heats the bed for us… 3*C is our overnight high!
