The Hottest November day on Record

Thursday 27 November

Sara had the early shift before heading to work so we had a coffee run/doing admin kinda morning at the Fernandi household; Squeak did a very good impression of a one legged cat for my photo - one leg, but too many toe-beans! Was shocked when we left to find just 3 cars, a caravan and a moho on the driveway - usually there are at least 8 cars down there! Swung by St Lukes on the way in to hospital - Black Friday madness in and around the shopping mall - chaos! Got an electric fan and headphones for Helen - yay for Black Friday Sales after all!

Cool to see a bus advertising the new IKEA due to open in Sylvia Park after at least a decade or two of anticipation and false hope - just 4 days to go. The bus was decked out like the infamous blue IKEA bags that we all grew to know and love back in the UK!

Met Michael on the way out as we headed in and did a handover on the ward with Sara. Lots of good news - Helen had been out of bed to sit in a chair, her blood sugars were fairly steady and she had actually eaten some breakfast. Through the afternoon she snoozed and moved about a bit in the bed but was not quite up to a walkabout when the physios swung by. It was the hottest November day on record so the fan was a blessing - we hung it on a drip stand so she got a gentle breeze across her head & torso, but then they put the aircon on so it wasn’t quite as necessary! Louis fixed up her phone & headphones and we left her listening to the radio online.

Mid afternoon Helen had a lovely visit from Amy and her flatmates Sarah W & Beth - Beth has dropped by a few times as she is also a paramedic, and would pop up to the ward to see Grandma if one of her jobs required a hospital drop off. Sarah has just returned from a huge holiday to South America and Antarctica - some phenomenal pics on her Insta... I was severely jealous (though not of the ice plunge she took off the boat!)

Drove over to Quay West to drop off the Goldschmidt’s car for Luke who is up in Auckland this weekend and see Jean & Don.

We were about to leave when Helen called to say her radio channel wouldn’t start after she received a phone call - so Louis had to go back up to the hospital to sort things out (and negotiate entry with security as it was after 8pm) while I hopped on the bus back to Green Bay. Picked him up from the station around 9.30 and we staggered home to a well earned sleep! 💤
