Monday 25 May
A beautiful golden if slightly misty dawn at our favourite Ōtautahi Christchurch POP - Treehouse Retreat in Kaiapoi. My stone collection which I left in March was still happily ensconced on the fence post - with a few cobwebs - glowing in the morning sun.
Louis was feeling crook so stayed in bed, while I popped into Kaiapoi central to sort out dropping off rubbish & op shop donations, buying food supplies and collecting my prescription. Then back to Banjo for a bit of BBQ excitement whilst cooking the chook for lunch - roaring flames and heavy smoke from the dripping fat… yikes!
Our mutual friend, Petra, came to join Abby, Jez & me for lunch and a long overdue catch up in the sun - scorched chicken legs and salad… yum!
Mid-afternoon, Abby & I drove Jez to the airport to fly back to Auckland on business (they’d just spent 3 days driving down from there, ironically) then we hit Kmart to stock up their new TrailLite.

Louis was feeling almost human (but not quite) so we swung by to see Ella & Josh for a wee bit before heading back to camp where Abby & I lit the fire pit & I toasted marshmallows. 🔥
