Sunday 10 August
A glorious sunny Sunday in town. Louis still in healing mode so I went off to check out Princes Wharf & Viaduct Harbour to see if anything had changed in our 8 month absence (answer - not a lot!) I almost got run over by about 100 urban runners as I crossed the road and tried to navigate my way down to the waterfront. Looking back at my first sight of Auckland in 1989, the sheer number of skyscrapers which have sprung up is amazing. Quay West was built 8 years after my first visit, and is now dwarfed behind the shiny PWC Tower which went up about 6-7 years ago (second tallest building in Auckland after the SkyTower).
Down at the Viaduct the sunshine and blue skies made everything sparkle, but there were surprisingly few visitors for such a sunny Sunday morning. Great to see that the Wynyard Bridge is functioning again after many months being stuck open so everyone had to make a long detour or hop on a wee ferry to cross the 10m from Viaduct to Wynyard! But sad to see that Janice of Wyoming has left her usual berth by the bridge - presumably cruising in the summery north. The Wynyard steps have been designated as a summer swimming area (complete with an adorable double changing cabin) and the jumping/manu platform has become official - can't wait to see that in use again!
Amy & the Tomkinsons came and joined us around lunchtime then I dropped Abby & Jez off out west. Abby & I wanted to hit a couple of op shops so Jez collected Harley from Esther’s place and decided to walk him home to the Moho in the Fernandi’s busy drive.
Back at the apartment I discovered why Ian has rather small dinner plates… I’d bought a regular to large dinner plate at the hospice shop , but the cupboard door wouldn’t shut on it!
Jean popped down to see us in the evening - updating us on news of Don who was not doing well in hospital 😳 Fingers crossed for better news in the morning!

Having short term access to Netflix we binge watched “Adolescence” and went to bed feeling rather stressed about life.
