Starting the Recovery

Saturday 9 August

A new dawn, a new day and he’s almost feeling good!

Woke from a relatively short sleep after late night puzzling to a stunning day; called Louis for an update and he was doing ok - no sciatica pain, but surgery wound pain was quite intense… however he had managed a walk down the corridor without any further aggravation. Visiting was strictly from 11am so I got on with the puzzle 🧩 until he called to say his surgeon, Dean, had been to see him and given him the all clear to leave so I whizzed over to scoop him up. Sadly we had not accounted for interminable paperwork and lengthy procurement of a sackful of drugs so we didn’t actually escape until almost lunchtime.

The drive home was slow and swervy as I tried to negotiate the lumps and bumps of the Auckland streets with minimum impact and we managed to get him up to the apartment and organise things around his need to lie or stand but never sit!

Russ popped over with lunch for us and Amy brought dessert then Abby & Jez swung by too. Sara & Michael dropped in later on their way to the NZIFF in town, on their wedding anniversary. 🥰 So lucky to have such lovely supportive friends and family ❤️ Oh, and I finished the puzzle!

We got Louis drug regime sorted and tried our best to keep the pain at bay… but it was a tough challenge and he managed a few snoozes but not a great night’s sleep - that may take a while. ❤️‍🩹
