Starting Out on the long Road to Recovery

Tuesday 25 November

After meeting Helen on the ward at 1am following her second surgery, we staggered home to bed around 2am. Sara was up early and in the ward by 7ish, so we did a few chores and had a bit of a lie in, after news that Helen had slept overnight and was still snoozing 💤

Laundry at the Fernandi’s, coffee run from Green Bay, trip to St Luke’s where we met Amy & Beth, then we rocked up to the hospital to relieve Sara. Helen was definitely more restful but struggling with the pain reliever button so we had to give her some assistance throughout the afternoon. Michael and Amy both came in for a bit, the lovely Dr Sara(no H) reviewed Helen’s progress and made plans for ongoing treatment, I had a walk round the Domain and the day passed in a far more relaxed fashion.

Highlight of the day was Dr Sara (no H) suggesting we get Helen moved across to a window bay in the ward so she had good daylight, a bit of a view and helicopter action to check out as the helipad is not far from her ward! No sooner said than done, though Helen was concerned what the owner of that bay would say - she hadn't realised in her drug-induced haze that the previous patient had been checked out and left the bay empty for her to slide across into!

Picked up dinner from Bay Wok on the way back to the Fernandi household, where we were able to catch up with the gang (including Jez online from his new job), then have a quick dog walk, before falling into bed… we should sleep well!
