Snow, Sunshine & Shepherd's Pie!

Saturday 14 June

Sunshine at last! And the blue skies & sun’s rays made the snow glow white as can be. We woke to find deep frost on our awning and the campsite sparkling in the sun.

Popped into town to get some supplies and a coffee. A midwinter market was on in the square and I succumbed to another pair of earrings!

Louis drove back with the shopping while I walked round the end of the lake - marvelling at the difference a day made.

Met lots of dogs so was a bit late back but we still managed to pack up and leave around lunchtime. First stop was Twizel then on towards Omarama before heading southeast along the Waitaki valley past Lakes Benmore, Aviemore & Waitaki - all glowing in the sun shine.

Our destination was the POP at Glenmac Farm and we arrived minutes before the sun disappeared behind the mountains! We took advantage of Jez's clippers and barbers skills to give Louis a buzz cut for the winter... on the basis that if it looked too terrible he could hide it under an assortment of beanies!

Also took advantage of the musterers' kitchen for dinner and cooked up a Kumara shepherds pie - perfect comfort food for such a chilly evening!
