Sunday 12 October

Back to life, back to reality - big trip to the Liquid Laundromat for me (our linen change weekend and helping out E&J as their bore water colours all their light washing a grubby rusty shade). I had a wander round Kaiapoi while the washing machines were churning and was shocked at the amount of water in the Waimakariri River which had burst its banks. The rain upstream in the mountains had clearly been pretty intense.

Louis went on a bit of a wild goose chase looking for a pool - the one listed online in Kaiapoi turned out to be private so he had to scoot over to Rangiora.

Washing complete and folded, he picked me up and we headed to see the kids, via a Banjo pit stop to hang out the dresses I was too scared to tumble dry (I already shrank the lefthand pink one last summer and I am very sad cos it's now a bit short), for late lunch (yet more party leftovers!)

Chill out afternoon for me, chatting with Ella & Josh while Louis put on his marigolds to scrub out the inside of our toilet cassette (note to self, don’t leave it 10 months until we next clean it!!! 🤢💩) Took a well earned rest at Banjo then the wind got up again, so we canned the invitation for dinner with us and went back to Woodend, to find Ella & Josh had just got her a cheap bike off Marketplace (it's a bit munted but hopefully one of their lovely friends is bicycle literate!) .

We cooked them Silver Ferns burgers for dinner and had hoodlum hounds snuggles then said our farewells for this visit. Sorted out Banjo ready for the next journey, got stared at by Hera the white cat in the van next door, and stocked up our fridge & pantry at Pak’n’save before turning in to watch Slow Horses - yay!
