Meeting our NZMCA Saviours... are we Related?

Friday 4 July
The rain cleared and we spent the morning dealing with issues like the leak at our house in BHB and updates on Grandma’s progress at Auckland Hospital (still lots of pain but keeping her in to manage it and observe).

I had a walk into town with only one passing dog pat, then we packed up and crawled out of our muddy spot at the NZMCA and headed south to Dunedin (again). Brief stop to empty our black & grey water at Oamaru then lunch in Banjo down by the harbour.

Pressing on, the weather set in with rain, fog & low cloud hampering our journey so we arrived in Sawyers Bay rather later than planned.
A lovely couple from the NZMCA facebook page, Wayne & Diane Earl (IKR!) had offered us a parking space on their driveway as Dunedin was filling up fast for the All Blacks match tomorrow night! Such lovely people - we had drinks and shared travel stories and recommendations with them and did a shallow dive into our Earl ancestry to see if we could find a family link (spoiler alert - neither of us could go back more than 2-3 generations so failed miserably!)

Dinner in Banjo to try and keep our food budget in check this month 🙄 then started watching “The Gold” about the Brinks Mat Heist (see also British Scandal
Podcast season 49) - apparently any British gold jewellery bought since 1984 likely contains some of the stolen bullion!
