Last Supper at Waimate

Monday 16 June
Another chilly frosty night - but at least we weren’t as cold as the Pajero which was sparkling with frost!
Spent a lazy morning at Glenmac pottering around and then headed off around midday - up to Kurow, across the Waitaki and followed the Hakataramea highway down almost to the coast.
We pulled into the NZMCA park at Waimate for our last evening together with the Tomkinsons and their Moho. Abby was still working so Louis, Jez and I popped into town for a few essential supplies (mine included a cute hat at the local Sallies) and check out our chosen dinner venue - we’d come to Waimate for a Monday night steak deal! Sadly the local Red Cross op shop was not open, despite some very tempting designs being modelled in the window!
Once Abby was done for the day we dressed up warm and 3 of us walked into town while Louis drove.

The Waimate Kitchen & Bar turned out to be a really cool venue that was being managed by a very go-getting hospitality entrepreneur from Georgia USA who’d come to Waimate on a whim a few years earlier and now seemed to be running half the town!
We all had the special ribeye steak deal, after a “small” plate of calamari to share. The desserts in the cabinet looked absolutely amazing and we all succumbed… they were delicious! Raspberry & white chocolate cheesecake for Jez, apple sponge & custard for Louis, chocolate lava cake for Abby and lemon meringue pie for me. A fitting final dinner before we part ways in the morning. 🥳😢
