I Finally Learned How to Tow Banjo!

Monday 14 July
Waking to the sound of Jonny driving off to work, we realised we had missed our chance to say a final farewell 😢 However we were in time to watch the moon dip down and the sun rise and flood the ranges around us with golden light.
Louis packed up quite quickly; I faffed around, gossiping with Debs, washing my hair, trying to round up everything we’d brought inside over the last few days (spoiler alert, left my big teacup in the microwave - doh!)
Finally we were ready and said goodbye to Debs and headed out the gate… where we stopped and swapped places - I got to drive all the way down McArthur Road towing Banjo… a rather belated debut after 7 months on the road!
That was enough for a start, so Louis took over again after I’d turned onto Springvale Road and we drove along the Pig Route to Ranfurly - passing through “The Power of the Dog” country.
We were the only people at the Ranfurly NZMCA so had our pick of all the spots!
Settled in, heated up homemade pumpkin soup for lunch then after a wee siesta we cycled about 5km along another section of the Otago Central Rail Trail… we’ll tackle some more tomorrow.
Watched the BandAid documentary and had pesto pasta for dinner… waiting for the temperatures to drop to freezing overnight - should put our homemade insulation to the test!
