Here comes the Sun...

Saturday 24 May
Saturday morning and we only had a wee lie in š¦ before getting up and whizzing over to Curio Bay for the sunrise. It was worth every moment of missed sleep - we climbed the headland and watched the epic colours of the sky around us change as the sun crept higher then peaked over the horizon and were mesmerised by the crashing waves.
The glow in the sky just before the sun peaked over the hilly horizon was fiery red, turning to vibrant orange & gold - but to the south, the tones were a softer peachy orange over the grey blue sea.
As the sun came up from behind the hills to the east, and amazing golden hour glow was cast across Porpoise Bay as the waves rolled in, crashing on the rocks and creating a warm golden misty aura.
As the sun climbed into the thin layer of cloud above, the light turned to a paler Tuscan gold and the whole bay was bathed in the glow. Watching the sun shine through under the Matariki pou, honouring Waita, the wind star, the whole landscape gradually became alive with ligh.t
In the bay below our vantage point on the headland, the white horses came thundering through, often breaking miles from the shore line, and throwing a fine mist into the air. In the pre-dawn light, the sea they crashed down into reflected the fiery red & pink clouds above. Below the headland, looking out into the Southern Ocean, the thunderous waves crashing onto the stone ledges at the bottom of the cliff were a sight to behold - spraying high into the air.
We loved every moment of this stunning display - it truly is experiences like this which define Banjo's Odyssey - you don't get this in Auckland!
PS - I went a bit snap happy with phone & canon cameras therefore there will be two posts for the day!!!
