Saturday 19 July
We’ve been back and forth to Otepoti Dunedin several times in the last couple of months - but this was a very special trip as we were here to celebrate Abby Fernandes’ South Island 21st birthday!
After a positively balmy night which only dropped to +3*C, we did a few chores in the morning (laundry & op shopping for me, studio work for Louis) before a snack lunch after which we cycled over to the party venue to help Abby’s friends & family out with party prep.
Back at Banjo we showered and put on our best outfits - my new op shop dress was VERY pink! - then drove over to collect the birthday girl and arrived at the party in time to help with kitchen duties.
The party was lovely - 30 or so of Abby’s Dunedin friends, Auckland friends and her family all gathered together to celebrate this awesome young woman! Played a bit of pool, helped out with the buffet, cheered madly for Abby, Russ, Kate and all her assorted friends' speeches and generally had a lovely time!
Abby's friend Dani had done heaps of the catering and made her a beautiful lemon cake (GF) which went down a treat. We all got our official (and some unofficial) photos in front of the gorgeous ribbon & light curtain that Abby had created and we got to learn why Abby is known by half of her friends and Chrissy (too long and complicated to fully explain here - relates to a 2010s video animation thing on YouTube in the same vein as ASDF movies)
As oldies we had fully expected to sneak out early - but ended up being thrown out with the rest of the gang when the venue closed at midnight!
