Wednesday 23 July
Another frosty morning - we packed out of Old Pareora School POP and hit the road to Ōtautahi Christchurch with an obligatory stop in our special spot in Ashburton to visit Kmart and have a quick bite of lunch along the way.

We parked up at a relatively busy NZMCA Weedons site then hopped back in the car to go exploring. The Tasman Travels guys had posted some cool videos from the Awaroa/Godley Head DOC site and we were keen to check out the road out there as we’d heard it was pretty gnarly.
Maps took us on a roundabout route to the hills above Scarborough with phenomenal views up the coast towards New Brighton and northwards. We finally hit the narrow road out to Godley Head and decided we were not brave enough to pull Banjo along the 7.5km to the DOC site - but while we were there it was cool to check out the old gun emplacements.
I had a chat with Annette whose husband was super brave and had pulled their Snowy River out there three times (though she admitted it freaked her out each time!)
We returned via Lyttelton and a cheeky early dinner at Riverside Market then got an early night as we had to be up early to take Banjo in for some warranty works.
