From the Catlins to Invercargill & Bluff

Monday 26 May

Just us at the NZMCA site when we awoke on Monday morning. We got down the bikes and cycled over Curio Bay to see if we could spot any sealife. Still no penguins but we did see some dolphin fins out beyond the headland.

Everywhere seemed to be shut on a Monday so no coffee for Louis. We packed up and set off for Invercargill arriving in time for lunch and Jeremy’s job interview.

Amble On Inn was a fun campground full of ducks, which Harley found fascinating. Back on power after 3 days off grid, Louis was delighted to be able to get his Nespresso machine set up again!

After Abby & Jeremy were finished online, we took them down to Bluff (even less inspiring than last time under rainy skies) and got the obligatory Stirling Point signpost photo (even though we knew it wasn’t the southernmost point as we’d been to Slope Point!)

Back in Invercargill we stopped by Jenkins Street to see the correct house (114) where Louis’ dad grew up then swung by Burt Munro’s statue.

Jeremy booked us a First Table at the Homestead so we had a lovely dinner out and ate far too much - Deborah would not have approved! Blue cod for me & Louis - a real treat! Abby had steak and Jez had beef schnitzel - all for half price, yay!
