From Sunny Central to the Rainy Coast

Friday 8 May

After some amazing weeks of autumn sunshine, it had to end eventually… we awoke to blue skies in Kimbell at the Silverstream Hotel POP, but rain was in the forecast and it caught up with us in Timaru. It's clearly not always sunny in Kimbell - judging by the funky moss growth on the Motel sign and the dampness underfoot in the Hotel carpark where we stayed overnight - but it was while we were there.

We worked on some blogging and videos in the morning then packed up and set off for the coast, passing through Fairlie, Cave & Pleasant Point to reach PharLap Raceway POP by midday. Jez was at work work, and Abby was working from the Moho, so we settled in next to them, said kia ora to Abby & Harley, then Louis got a pie from Ubake (and ate it without the customary photo!) and we pottered in Banjo then popped into town so Louis could swim while I did laundry and a bit of essentials shopping as the rain rolled in.

By the time Jez finished work and Abby & I had taken Harley for a walk, it was tipping down. We all pulled on our glad rags and drove into town to dash through the rain to Koji Teppanyaki & Grill for dinner to celebrate their new TrailLite Moho purchase and look at the “ultrasounds” - the build update photos sent through by TrailLite every Friday!

Delicious food and we thoroughly over ordered - but somehow managed to eat the eleventy million dishes we ordered from the buffet menu! So many fabulous mini dishes to taste & enjoy. Favourites included salmon sashimi, tempura prawns, teppanyaki duck, beef tataki & gyozas 🍣🥟🍤 and we certainly kept the chef busy all evening.

Passed this neon sign on our waddle back to the car - Jez’ official title is Head Of Technology… or HOT!🔥

Drove home to PharLap feeling like beached whales, in time to catch the end of the rugby & for me to dose myself with jasmine tea before crashing out as the rain continued to patter loudly on Banjo’s roof. So good to catch up with our lovely friends again 🥰
