First Day of Winter

Monday 1 June

Another dramatic sunrise awakening - fabulous fiery sky 💛🧡❤️💜

When you’re on the road, King’s Birthday and other holidays don’t resonate as much as when we had 9-5 jobs - just another day - which was just how we treated this Monday!

Pottered around then hit the cycle trails in a big loop - into Kaiapoi, along the Waimakariri River, through The Pines, past Woodend Beach and out to Pegasus then back along an inland route. Got buzzed by a speedy boat on the Waimak as we cycled along the bank.

Loved ther Kermit coloured Porsche at Woodend Domain - can't miss that one! And also loved the bilingual sign on the gate - instructions for dogs and humans!

Pegasus was an interesting place - conceived and created this millennium, the new town is carefully curated and elegantly manicured, sited around a number of lakes and waterways… slightly unreal.

Back at Banjo for a late lunch, a trip into Kaiapoi with the laundry then over to Rangiora for a movie. Had heard “Sheep Detectives” described as “Babe meets Knives Out” and loved that mash up concept! Turned out to be such a wonderful, funny tale of love, loss & growth with a side helping of ovine murder mystery… filmed in Hambleden, near where I grew up! Our detective work also included trying to place the voice artists for the various sheep - Rhys Darby and Brett Goldstein were my two winners.

Inappropriately, we had lamb chops for dinner... Murderers!

... and then spent the rest of the evening round the campfire, toasting marshmallows and catching up with John, our POP host. Happiness is a campfire and a bag of Pascalls Marshmallows!
