Thursday 3 April
A rainy night and a damp morning in Kaitangata - we took our time and then headed back to SH1 to continue the journey to Dunedin.
Learning from experience, we took an alternate route out of Kaitangata, hanging a right at Stirling and bypassing the scarily low bridge. Passing a sign saying “cheese factory” we dropped in but it was all rather disappointing (closed door, empty display case and only boring old colby, tasty & mild hard cheese in the fridge - at supermarket prices, I may add)) so we hit the road again, stopping instead in Milton which was kinda cool. There were some funky murals & painted buildings and an op shop where I found some fabulous floaty pants 💙
An hour or so later we climbed a few hills, then dropped down into Otepoti Dunedin - the Edinburgh of the South.

Driving along SH1, it was cool seeing the railway alongside us, plus the Otago Goldfields Heritage cycle trail running beside Lake Waihola. Note to self - may be a nice area to explore and cycle in the future.
After a few false starts we found ourselves a spot at Dunedin Holiday Park that would accommodate Banjo then whizzed into town to fix a windscreen ding and accidentally spend a small fortune on some treat foods 😜
Back at base, we took a wonderful walk along St Kilda beach as the sun lowered in the sky and the wind blew a hooley.
Lamb steaks for dinner in Banjo before I got up to date with FB - hurrah!
