A Rollercoaster Ride of a Recovery

Friday 28 November

Got busy baking Anzacs for Helen’s care team in the morning while Sara and then Auntie Jean took the morning shift at the hospital.

We rocked up around 11.30 and Helen had already been out of bed and sitting in a chair for a few minutes. Still struggling to eat, or rather drink, much - she'll stay on fluids for a day or so longer. Jean had been reading to her which she’d enjoyed and she was generally feeling better. With the nurse we got her out of bed again for another stint in the chair before she had a snooze back in bed. Sadly she woke in a lot of pain and distress - it seems to be a bit of a rollercoaster recovery - but Jean and I comforted her until Louis got back from the pool a few minutes later. Sara was back for an evening visit so we excused ourselves early and went to see Dean & Katy for Friday drinkies. Dean has a wonderfully eclectic style - his Bowie/Leia mash up print has pride of place on the wall, but the MJ/Leia mash up has been turned upside down given his dubious reputation! He also has a weeping angel from Dr Who on his Christmas tree which is pretty damn cool.

From there it was “home” to the Fernandi’s for a slap up end of the week dinner with Nickie & Abby and a bottle of Pimms! Russ meanwhile was out on the waters, helping Miles and Rachel to sail their catamaran Citrus Tart down from Whangarei to Hobsonville for the summer.
