A Day Bookended by great Food!

Friday 1 August

By a strange coincidence, Matt Clayton, who we had lunch with in Christchurch on Saturday, flew into Taupō on the same afternoon as we dragged Banjo up SH1 from Turangi so we joined him for morning tea at Baked with Love - a most fabulous café and bakery - in town on Friday morning! The deli and bakery cabinets here are overloaded with the most fabulously presented foods - exquisite desserts, slices, cakes and pastries for the sweet tooth amongst us, and loaded savouries for the healthy ones! I was lured in by the lemon cheesecake with a wee meringue garnish and it was truly scrumptious!

After that lovely treat, we packed up Banjo and set sail for Rotorua, unwittingly passing Sarah & Beth along the way as they & Amy were spending the weekend at Beth’s family home with the dogs & horses!

We parked up at NZMCA Ngongotaha just outside town - a case of deja vu as this was our first stop after leaving Auckland on 12 December last year.

Late afternoon both Abby & Amy/Sarah/Beth insisted that I must get my hurty finger checked (ripped hangnail infection) so we headed into town - 5 hour wait at ED or 45 minutes and a $135 charge at the Lakes Primecare Health Centre so we paid up and got sorted with antibiotics.

Then seeing as we were in town anyway and it was a new food budget month 😁 we treated ourselves to dinner at Saigon ‘60s. Great and well deserved Google reviews, the food was excellent, served quickly and only cost us about $50!!! Second treat of the day!
