Tuesday 30 December
After a wild night of wind & rain - and the barn roof next door banging loudly as it had come adrift at one corner - we awoke to a grey, wet & cloudy day which never really improved. Abby & Jez took Harley out while we stayed in Banjo catching up with blogging and stuff. Louis and Jez went swimming in town while Abby & I chilled. I tried to walk Harley down the vines at lunchtime but one up and back was quite enough he reckoned!
By teatime we were all stir crazy so wandered through the vines down to No. 1 - the only winery here making sparkling Methode Traditionelle wine (basically champagne without the geographic provenance). Hosted by a very funny Irish woman, the others sampled 5 different wines and came away with a bottle each for New Year’s Eve! 🍾🍾🍾
Next stop was the Roots Gin Shack where Ben, the genius gin distiller served us and we got the giggles… he has a new low alcohol gin which he is not allowed to call a spirit as the volume is more like that of wine; I suggested he renamed it “gine” 🤣
Staggered home with a couple of bottles of Ben’s very fine gin and cooked pork chops on the bbq for dinner then broke out the Flip 7 before retiring.
